Downsizing is not a straightforward transition. There are a few reasons why one may consider downsizing to a smaller space.

Lifestyle (the time and costs behind maintaining a large home)

Travel (the need to travel many months of the year)

Health (no more stairs, shoveling snow and gardening)

Retirement (cashing in home equity to retire)

I have worked with many clients over the years that have looked to downsize and done so successfully. I have also worked with clients that have dabbled with downsizing but found it too daunting a process to move forward.

When looking to downsize to a condo, there are many factors involved:

Price, location, new building versus old building, maintenance fees and size. 

Size is one of the biggest issues when downsizing. Often older buildings are the better option due to having larger units.
